Procedure:

Summer is around the corner. Ti's the season for icy smoothies! Our smoothie is 100 % fruits and icy cold literarily, i.e. no water and no ice added.  We know that you need liquid to get the blender going and you need ice to make the icy smoothie, so how do you make 100 % fruits no water and no ice smoothie? The answer is (drum roll...), Instead of water, we use at least one kind of juicy fruit, such as grapes, to start up the blending. Instead of ice, we use frozen fruits.  You could use water melon, but personally I think grape juice is a great base for all smoothies, unless you are allergic to grapes. Grapes are sweet and a little sour so grape juice tastes great alone. When blended with frozen strawberries, mixed berries, banana and other sweet and sour fruits, it becomes a heaven's drink angel! Banana is also a must. My kids still like to buy smoothie at the Jamba Juice, but I would argue that this home made smoothie should be better in nutrition and maybe taste too.

  1. Remove grapes from stems and wash thoroughly. Wash and cut the rest of the fruits to small pieces like kiwi and pineapple.
  2. Set the blender to low. The nutritionists recommend not to completely destroy the fibers in fruits by finely blend the fresh fruits, so setting at low is enough. Grape juice is the base liquid of this smoothie, so blend grapes first.
  3. Add frozen strawberries and mixed berries and blend till no more large icy chunks of fruits are present. Depending on how powerful is your blender, the blender might shake while blending the frozen fruits, so hold the blender base and top with both hands to steady it. My blender is just a regular $25 one and it's been working just fine for many years now (though I can tell that it has to work hard to blend the frozen fruits).
  4. Finally add the rest of the prepared fruits and blend everything until big chunks disappear.
  5. You can reverse the steps 4 and 5 by blending the fresh fruits first and in fact I do that most of the time (see the picture below). I just thought, while I am writing, that it might be easier on the blender to blend the icy fruits when there is less liquid.
  6. That's it. Yell for people and serve your smoothie!
