The Amazing Tropical Rainforest Botanical Garden
Just came back from a 6-day vacation in Big Island Hawaii staying at the Waikoloa Village, about 30 miles northeast of Kailua Kona airport. This Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden was discovered the day when we were driving from Waikoloa to Hilo on a scenic drive off Highway Mamalahoa (Highway 19) which we later saw from the map as the Old Mamalahoa Highway. From the entrance and the ticket office, it's hard to tell how big was the garden. Not knowing what to expect, we entered the garden and for the next 2 and a half hours were uninterruptedly amazed by a whole world of tropical plants, most of them unbeknownst to us (as we weren't exactly botanically literate). The garden was cultivated from the coastal rainforest at the Onomea Bay, about 7 miles north of Hilo. It's absolutely worth the entrance fee ($15 for adult and $5 for kids).
I tried to note down the names of the plants shown in the following pictures, but still missed a few. If you know the names of the plants that I didn't get the names, please let me know. Thanks in advance!
