With 84 inches of annual precipitation , the area is well known for its lavish tropical rainforests, waterfalls and gorgeous coastal views. The photos here were taken from Rainbow Falls, Akaka Falls State Park, Waipo Lookout and Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden at the Onomea Bay. Most of the rainforest plants and flowers were taken from the Hawaii Tropical Botanical Garden at Onomea Bay.
Kilauea Volcano at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park
Submitted by dlibc on Wed, 08/07/2013 - 02:56Kilauea, meaning "much spreading" in Hawaiian local language, is probably world's most active volcano. In Hawaiian mythology, Kilauea is the home of the Goddess of Fire "Pele". Kilauea has a fairly recently formed caldera at its summit, called the Kilauea Caldera. The Halema'uma'u Crater, one of Kilauea's most historically active eruption centers, is a major feature in the caldera.
